Introvert's Paradise
I've been going a little wild with my sleep schedule these last few days of vacation (roughly: awake 20 hours, asleep 10), and really loving it. Everyone should try it at least once. You do have to be okay on your own, as it means your social/alone time ratio may flip from 70/30 to 30/70 or something -- but if you have things to do by yourself, be it games, projects, writing, or midnight constitutionals, it's quite pleasant and surreal. After a few "days", you're back on normal time and everything is cool.
It made for a memorable New Years' celebration that played out like a day in reverse. I got up at 9pm, partied for hours, got home at 5 in the morning, then worked on side projects in a lowkey fashion til 11, followed by a great New Years' brunch at Busboys and Poets with an old roommate. Busboys and Poets was surprisingly not at all full, because everyone was asleep or hungover; one of the benefits of being on a schedule no one else is on.
Something that's hard to get any other way is the freedom to whatever you want, for as long as you want. Working or playing at something for 8 hours in a row is a hell of a lot easier between 1am and 9am than it is from 1pm to 9pm, no matter if it's a week day or weekend. If you often feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day, try this and you might be surprised by the feeling of having more hours than you know what to do with. It's a liberating sensation.
